West Michigan Outlaws

Who we are...

It is Outlaws Baseball /Softball goal to provide the challenging experience of competitive Baseball/Softball to achieve a high level of success for our travel teams. This goal must be reached within the structure provided by the Coaches and Board of Directors. To reach this goal we will endeavor to improve the quality of coaching and instruction given to our youth players by using resources from within and outside our organization. Our teaching will emphasize sportsmanship, a focus on fundamentals, commitment to excellence, self-improvement and playing hard at all times. We will also invite the support and involvement of our youth's parents and our community.

Our teams compete against other travel programs in Michigan and the surrounding states. It will be the goal of the organization to provide training, both indoor and out, that will enhance the skills and abilities of our players. We will enlist the help of local high school and college coaches, former college players, and other trainers to help each and every one of our players reach peak performance.

Our Past and Our Future...

West Michigan Outlaws was formed by founder Marc Uturo in 2007. That first WMO team grew quickly to two, then four, then ten teams. We haven’t looked back since. In the past nine years are our teams have played all across the state of Michigan and the USA. We have sent multiple teams to Omaha Nebraska as part of the College World Series tournaments. Our teams have finished second and third in those events and even defeated a #1 ranked USSSA team in our first visit! Outlaws teams have played in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, Nebraska, Iowa, Tennessee, and Wisconsin. Our teams have won the Game Day USA State Championships multiple times (including in 2015 and 2016), USSSA State Championships, and accepted invitations to the Game Day World Series (2015 and 2016) and the Greater Midwest Baseball World Series (2016). In 2016 one of our 15U teams achieved the first ever AAA ranking by the GMB Association of Youth Baseball. In between those milestones, we have won over 50 tournaments in both Softball and Baseball, and sent huge numbers of players to the Game Day All Star games.

Our West Michigan Outlaws Summer Blast tournament routinely hosts over one hundred baseball and softball teams from across the Midwest and Canada. We have grown from an organization with no home to an organization with over 20 teams moving into a new 8000 square foot facility in September of 2016! From the dream of one dad to the reality of hundreds of youth athletes, the West Michigan Outlaws organization has shifted the landscape of travel baseball and softball in West Michigan. Our non-profit status makes us unique in the area. Where most organizations seek to make profit, our leaders have made the training of kids our utmost priority.

In 2010 the West Michigan Outlaws leadership evolved into a Board of Directors. The Board currently consists of seven members (six voting). This division of labor has paid huge dividends for WMO. The board consists of both coaches and parents and is led by our Director of Operations and Vice President, Stephanie Dewey.

As we move into 2017, we look forward to a new indoor training facility, the growth and development of our training and professional staff, another great season of baseball and softball including our first ever organizational trip to Cooperstown! The future of WMO looks bright.
